    GUATEMALA.
    “Provincial insurrection coinage” 1823-1825.

    A hoard of gold- and silver pieces of unknown types from this period appeared on market.

    The coins of 1, 2 and 4 Escudos in gold and 1/2, 1, 2, 4 and 8 Reales in silver are dated 1823 and 1824. Some pieces do not indicate the denomination and the metal is debased and of varying fineness for both gold and silver.

    The justification for this coinage of 1823-5 is based on recently discovered archival research. However, no original coins are known, therefore these must be considered “fantasies.”

    All the pieces you find on the following plates are fake.

    These published pieces were already sold to private collectors and dealers and it really looks-like, that many more dies and perhaps more types exist, however, they are of the same general appearance
