Macrinus, 217-218 AD.
AV Aureus.
Av.: IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG Laureate and draped bust of Macrinus r.
Rv.: PONTIF MAX TRP II COS PP Felicitas standing l., holding cornucopiae and caduceus.
6,62 g.
BoC.: 18/1, 1993, p.17.
FAKE – Again a counterfeit of certain age: it is lot 2373 of the Trau auction (Gilhofer & Ranschburg/Hess, Vienna 1935). Comparison with the genuine aureus shows the stylistic weakness and, an anmusing detail, how Felicity is twisting her arm around the staff of the caduceus instead of simply holding it.
