Based on previous interpretations by the Wisconsin Ethics Commission and confirming with the Senate Chief Clerks Office that the Senate Veto Review Floor Period has officially adjourned, AWL believes the window for direct contributions from lobbyists to candidate committees begins on May 16. In April, AWL reached out to the WI Ethics Commission, but has not received official confirmation. With the Veto Review Floor Period adjourned and ending today, AWL believes the lobbyists contribution window for primary and general elections opens on May 16, 2024.
If you should have any questions regarding this interpretation or would like further clarification, please feel free to contact the WI Ethics Commission directly at (608) 266-8123.
Based on previous Ethics Commission's interpretation of the statute; if the current legislative session is extended beyond the veto review floor period or if an extraordinary session or special session is called, the window for direct lobbyist contributions to state legislative candidates CLOSES until the respective session is adjourned.
