Prospective candidates.
As a professional association and in accordance to the Statutes of the IAPN, membership may be held by professional numismatists in their own names, by numismatic firms or by other commercial institutions which have a Numismatist responsible for their numismatic department.
Membership to the Association generally involves a rigorous and sometimes protracted vetting procedure. Candidates must have been established in business as numismatists for at least four (4) years and their applications must be sponsored by three (3) current IAPN members from at least two (2) different countries. In order to be admitted, the Association needs to be satisfied that applicants have carried on their business in an honorable manner and that they have a good general knowledge of numismatics as well as expertise in their field of study or specialty.
Prospective candidates interested in becoming a member of the IAPN must submit their application materials by January 1st to be taken into consideration for a possible vote at the annual IAPN General Assembly of the same calendar year.
To apply, prospective candidates must submit:
• A completed application form supported by three (3) current IAPN Member sponsors, and
• A brief letter from the candidate presenting the applicant's work, activities and publications.
• A similar letter from the main sponsor presenting the candidate, their achievements and
why they should become a member of the Association.
Additional information about the above requirements are detailed throughout the application form.
Following receipt of prospective candidate applications and letters of support, the Executive Committee will review submitted application materials to ensure they are completed correctly, and decide if they can be added to the General Assembly meetings agenda. During the General Assembly's business meetings, formal presentations are made by each of the applicant's sponsors followed by discussions among current IAPN members. Finally, voting is conducted to decide which candidates will become new members of the Association.
Please contact the Membership Committee for any specific questions you may have about joining the IAPN.
